At the national wine capital,visiting vineyards is a must.

The best italian cuisine can be appreciated at the tables of Bento. They are galetos(

deboned chicken),pastas,soups,sausages and polenta, always accompanied by good

wines produced in the region.

Before buying wines,cheese, juices and colonial products, tast each one.Tasting is

part of the tradition.

The real fun is to visit the vineyards.All offer free wine tasting and sale of their wines.

In many of them oenologists accompany visitors, wich start at the grapevine trellises

and end with a toast amids oak vats.

The majority of the establishments are located in the Vale dos Vinhedos (Vineyard Valley)

in the districts of Tuiuty and Pinto Bandeira. Another attraction is a drive through colonial

São Pedro. The 7 kilometrers trip passes by 28 stone and wood buildings, reminiscent of

northern Italy. Along the route colonial products can be found, in addition to Italian Cantinas

and beatiful chapels.

Ainda antes do avião aterrisar e o piloto anunciar que o avião vai pousar, olhe pela
janela e veja o Guaíba.Se você estiver com sorte e for um dia claro, no entardecer verá que o rio (estuário) estará dourado, assim como os prédios, armazéns do cais,o porto e a famosa chaminé de 107 metros de altura da Usina do Gasômetro - uma antiga termoelétrica, de 1928 que hoje é um Centro de Cultura. Ao chegar com algumas informações voce logo começará a entender o jeito de ser dos porto-alegrenses.
Por aqui acredita-se que há o mais bonito pôr-do-sol do país, Além disso, gaúcho que é gaúcho toma chimarrão e fala "TCHÊ", "BAH" e "TRI".
Há a rivalidade entre os colorados (Inter) e gremistas (grêmio) e a Revolução Farroupilha por ser antiga já esta superada.
O povo é muito simpático e gosta de receber os turistas.
No inverno é a melhor época para conhecer a capital gaúcha.O frio é celebrado com dias de um azul radiante.Basta um raio de sol para o pessoal ir para as praças com suas cuias de chimarrão.Aliás o mate é uma paixão regional.Para quem não conhece a
cuia é de porongo - um fruto - na qual se coloca erva-mate. Depois é só encher de água quente - sem ferver - e tragar com uma bomba de prata que faz o papel do canudo.
É amargo no começo, mas logo vira um vício mantido mesmo em dias com 40º C

Quando o sol se põe, Porto alegre tem a fama de ter as melhores churrascarias do Brasil. Porém outros sabores fazem sucesso por aqui.Restaurantes não faltam.Bares e
pubs,casas de show,teatro (São Pedro),museus,etc.
No centro da cidade o Mercado Público, a Rua da Praia ou Andradas e muitas outras atrações.
Os domingos em Porto Alegre tem como destaque o "Brique da Redenção", que acontece num parque próximo ao centro o Parque da Redenção ou Parque Farroupilha.É para lá
que os porto-alegrenses vão de mate e cuia prestigiar a feira de antiguidades mas
também com muitas novidades.Encontra-se lá gaúchos e muitos turistas.
Porto Alegre tem o clima de uma grande cidade, mas não dispensa os costumes simpáticos e familiares das cidades pequenas.Talvez isso explique o amor dos gaúchos
por sua terra natal.

The best time to arrive at the Gaucho's capital city is late afternoon of a sunny day.When the pilot announces that in a few minutes the plane will be landing at Porto alegre, turn your eyes towards the Guaiba River. It´s color will be golden as will also be the buildings in the city centre,the warehouses of the port and the 107 metres chimney of the Usina do Gasômetro - an old thermoeletric plant,1928, that is today a cultural centre.

After arrival, you will need some informationto get acquainted with the life stile of the Porto-alegrenses.The first thing is that they firmly believe that they have the most beautiful sunset of the country.In addition to this, a Gaucho that is really a Gaucho ,drinks "chimarrão" (mate tea),says "Tchê", "Bah" and "Tri" in his day-to-day talk.

The rivalry between the Colorados and Gremistas exists and The Farroupilha Revolution is a surpassed trauma.To complete, the people are very jealous and provincially minded, but they are also very simpatico and love to receive tourists.

For those interested in this culture, winter is the best period to get to know Porto Alegre.The cold is commemorated with days of radiant blue sky. A sunray is all that is needed for the locals to flood the parks with their chimarrão.By the way,mate tea is a regional passion. For those who do notknow this Gaucho symbol,let us present it: it is a calabash gourd - a fruit - in wich mate is placed.Once done, just fill it with hot water - without boiling- and gulp the tea down through a silver pump, which acts as a straw. Its bitter to begin with, but soon becomes addiction, even on days with a temperature of 40 degrees centigrade.

Porto Alegre is famed for having Brasil's best churrascarias - a deserved notoriety.Nevertheless, other flavours make sucess in these parts.There are many others cafes, pubs, theatre and shows places.

Around the city's centre, the public market provides a good luch option.It is part of a building that occupies a block on the Largo Glenio Peres, a Historical and Cultural Heritage building.Spices,regional products,fishes, sea foods, and typical fruits are some of the principal prchasing options of the 106 shops in the building.

Sundays in Porto alegre also has a special "atmosphere".It is the Brique da Redenção day, wich takes place in the park that lends its name,Redenção and Farroupilha. It is where the Gaucho converges with mate and calabash gourd to revere the mostbeloved fair of the city.The proposal is to be an antiquity fair , but it is full of novelties.The Gauchos and the tourists obviously love it.Porto Alegre has the atmosphere of a big city , but does not dispense with the nice and homelike customs of a small town.Pherhaps this explains why the Gauchos love their native land.In fact with a calabash gourd of mate and the beautiful view of the Guaiba River in front, it is easy to understand why there is so much passion.
